We have a LOT of book news for January to talk about. Victoria Aveyard is writing an adult pirate romantasy, we have news on Mistborn Era 3 and we’re checking in on the current status of ACOTAR book 6. There’s also some huge publishing drama involving AI translators. Let’s get into it!
BOOK ANNOUNCEMENTS & UPDATES
New Grisha-verse book is coming this summer!
Leigh Bardugo has announced that a new book in the Grisha Verse is releasing in June 2026, It’s called “A Darker Shore; Letters from Ketterdam” which will feature our favorite sea captain and crime boss, working togheter on a case.
A pirate inspired adult romantasy from Victorya Aveyard
Victoria Aveyard (author of Red Queen), has shared news about her first adult romantasy novel. It’s called Tempest and will be a pirate themed novel. It was supposed to be a stand alone got over 1300 pages long, so it’s currently planned to be a duet, and the first book is releaing 8 September 26 and the other one is planned for summer 27.
Mistborn Era 3 is coming
Brandon Sanderson have announced the third era of the Mistborn series – Ghostblood, and the first book will be released in 2028. He said that he has always had the intention of having 3 arcs in three different time eras. It’s confirmed that it will take place on Scadrial, about 50 years after era 2 and have ”known spike filled characters” returning.

Where’s ACOTAR 6?
It’s been 6 months since Sarah J Maas posted she was finished with her frist draft of the 6th ACOTAR-book. No other news are out, and according to the Bloomsbury publishing catalogue -26 we won’t have a release for the book during the first half of 2026. But this could potentially be added later, so we just have to keep on waiting.
The Ballad of the Noble Prince by Stephanie Garber
Stephanie Garber also teased on her instagram with a photo of a notebook and a new title of her latest project. The Ballad of the Noble Prince is the title, and we’ll see when we get more information!
Secret project by Abigail Owen
Abigail Owen teased a new secret project that is something else than The Wrath Gods Reap (third book in The Cubicle that is planned to be released in November). She said that the first draft is written and we’ll see what comes next.
Justice of One and another secret sci-fi project by James Islington
James Islington has updated on his Instagram that the third book in the Hierarchy series will be called Justice of One, and will be submitted to his publisher 2026, which means we might get a 2027 release. He is also publishing an other secret sci-fi project this year, but no details are out yet.
Alex Aster is releasing the first pages of her new adult romantasy to her membership site
If you follow Alex Aster and is interested in reading the first pages of her new book Starside, which is her first adult romantasy novel. It’s available for members of her site, Asterverse. The first 50 pages are free and if you want to join the memebership, you can recieve the first 150 pages. Starside will be released March 31, and you can preorder it via Amazon adlink here!
Free E-book novella in the Blood & Ash-series
Jennifer L. Armentrout has released a free e-book for downloading in the Blood and Ash-series, with bonus scenes from The Primal of Blood and Bone. It’s called A crown of ruin and you can get it for your Kindle, Kobo or other device.

Rachel Gillig posted on her Instagram togheter with Orbitbooks US and Hatchette a sneek peak from a photoshoot for the cover of The Knave and the Moon. It will be revealed January 14th!
INDIE PUBLISHED GOING TRAD
Traditional book contract for The Compelling Fates Saga
Sophia St. Germains popular Compelling Fates Saga (A tounge so sweet and deadly) is being traditionally published by Kensington Books for North American markets and Headline Eternal for UK and commonwealth markets. The books are scheduled for the first half of 2026, and with new covers. So if you want the indie versions, get your before it’s too lat. Her other series that is on the way is also going to be traditionally published right away.
City of God and Monsters by Kayla Edwards
City of God and Monsters by Kayla Edwards is also getting traditionally published 2026 – the covers won’t change, but the sizes, so if you’re in the middle of the series or want to buy the indie published ones right away, do it’s be fore it’s too late.
Kissed by the Gods by Cathy Rogan
Kissed by the gods by Cathy Rogan is also getting traditionally published 2026, and her paperback version is available on Amazon and her website as long as it’s in stock. The second book is in the works right now.
BONES & FANGS by K.L Speer
Popular BONES and FANGS by K.L Speer are also getting traditionally published in 2026 by Ballentine Books!
The third book in the War of Lost Hearts
Mother of Death and Dawn – the third and last book completing the War of Lost Hearts by Carissa Broadbent is released with the new cover and inside formatting March 17th by Bramble. The two previous books in the series (Daughter of No worlds and Children of Fallen Gods) are already available in bookstores.

Publishing drama with AI Translators
Harlequin France has dropped all their translators for AI-translators as a trial run.
HarperCollins France has written that “no Harlequin collection has been translated solely using machine translation generated by artificial intelligence” but is still testing if they can cut down on working time and increase profits. This has of course gotten a lot of citicism and push back from the reading community and authors.
